Too neutral?

I was looking at my knitting projects yesterday and I noticed how totally neutral they are right now. White stole, cream socks, light gray yarn out for mystery stole. How totally neutral is that!
Actually it's kind of comforting somehow. Clean colors, not busy (like my life lol), and things I would wear.

I am very curious about neutral feelings towards knitting projects. Is there such a thing as being "too neutral" towards a project? I am decidedly neutral about the pink sweater. If I don't feel excitement for it, should I actually finish it? When should we just rip? Should we mostly love a project in order to finish it? Should I feel guilty if I rip it? Hmmm....something to ponder. Let me know what you all think. What do you do with your "eh" projects?

In NOT neutral news. I picked up a bargain at the thrift store last week.

I got 4 skeins of this Lopi yarn for 50c each. I am thinking some slippers are in it's future. I love the crazy color, especially if maybe I put some PINK with it? Oh I love preppy colors. I also got this book. There is a really cute pair of slippers in there. I may have to try them for DD#1.

Brodie's being a dork.

What a life!

no such thing as too neautral ;)

I love that sneak peek of your lace. What is it? Do tell. ;-)

As for "eh" projects, I leave them alone for an unspecified amount of time before I rip them or throw them out. I'll rip them if I suddenly decide that I want the yarn for something else, I throw it out when I suddenly decide I'm sick of it and want it out of my house or if it's just taking up too much space.

I adore that picture of Brodie! He may be a dork, but he's a lovable dork. :-)

My 'eh' projects are now waiting in a pile to be ripped. If I'm not loving it while I'm knitting it, why waste the time and energy for something that I'm not going to love enough to wear?

I've been somewhat ambivalent about my current SIP but I'm past the halfway mark so I'll probably finish them up soon. Love the monkeys you just finished too! : )

I love neutral! I love that book too. The slippers in there are great.

Your mom's Monkey socks look great :) So does Brody.

I think that life is too short to waste time on projects you don't like. Think about the pink sweater some more and then rip it out if you must.

Awww, Brodie is the cutest dork ever!

Nothing wrong with neutral.

I do the same as Opal with the "eh" projects. Unless it's something someone has asked for and I know they won't think it's "eh"; then I have to finish it.

I think of everything possible before deciding to rip (rest in peace?). Once I know the ripping must be complete, I do it quickly and then put the yarn away for a bit. It is easier to cast back on once some of the 'pain' has faded

I guess it depends on how neutral you feel. I felt extremely neutral (if such a thing is possible!) about the sweater I finished a week or so ago. However, it was very important to me to finish my first knitted sweater so I bumped along and got it done.

Something that I don't have any stake in? Eh... It will probably sit for a while. Sometimes things look better after a time out and can then be completed. If it isn't looking better after a while, it gets frogged :)

I'm almost always "eh" by the end of a project, which is why things sit in the basket and don't get sewn up for several months after the last stitch is knit.

If "eh" projects are almost done, I finish them. It's the "ugh" project that get frogged ASAP.

I've decided that, for the most part, it's okay to have a stash of WIPs: some WIPs just don't get done till I find out why I was working on them in the first place.

Like the pair of extremely-boring (what was I thinking? That it would be practical, but come on!) tan socks. I got one and a half done and then they sat there for 18 months. Then there was a short guy whom I very much wanted to knit a pair of socks for, his feet couldn't be much bigger than mine, so I just finished off that half a sock and voila! I never told him they hadn't always been for him. They had; I just hadn't known it earlier.

Me? I have no compunctions about consigning items to the WIP graveyard. I figure the yarn will become something else some day and my investment of time is too important to waste on something I'm not happy with.

As to neutral colors? All part of the cycle, bay-bee. Check my blog for more on cycles.

Blessings!

I tend to put my "eh" projects away for a long time. If I'm still feeling neutral when I look at them again later, I rip. I don't think I've ever thrown one out, but I have given them away. I have a friend who loves to frog and salvage, so it feels less painful!
